This Jan. 2003 image provided by NASA shows a view of the toilet compartment in the Zvezda Service Module of the International Space Station. The space station’s Russian built toilet has been acting up for the past week. The three male residents have temporarily bypassed the problem, which involves urine collection, not solid waste. NASA rushed Wednesday May 28th, 2008 to get a special pump on board shuttle Discovery to fix a balky toilet at the international space station, as the launch countdown got under way.

Scientists say sea ice in the Arctic shrank to an all time low of 1,320,000 miles2 on Sunday, Sept. 16th, 2012, smashing old records for the critical climate indicator. That’s 18% smaller than the previous record set in 2007. Records go back to 1979 based on satellite tracking.

BEAM is a prototype space habitat that can be folded up like a parachute and reduced to nearly 20% of its inflated size, making it easier to pack for a trip into space. NASA released this image of the Moon beginning to rise behind the ARADS rover during the 2017 season of field tests in Chile’s Atacama Desert. The Atacama Rover Astrobiology Drilling Studies, or ARADS, project is designing tools and techniques that could be used to search for life one day on Mars or other places in the Solar System. The team’s prototype rover combines the ability to move across the surface, drill down to collect soil samples, and feed them to several life-detection instruments on board. The extreme conditions of Chile’s Atacama Desert provide one of the most Mars-like environments on Earth, where the team can test and refine these technologies and methods. ARADS is led by NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. Partners include NASA centers Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, as well as Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, Honeybee Robotics in New York, the University of Antofagasta and CampoAlto SpA, both in Chile, and Spain’s Center for Astrobiology.

Original flight control consoles and binders at the newly restored Apollo Mission Control Room on June 28th. Project Apollo’s Mission Operations Control Room has been meticulously recreated down to the tan carpeting, gray green wallpaper, white ceiling panels, woven cushion seats, amber glass ashtrays and retro coffee cups. More than $5 million was raised, most of it donations. It reopened to the public on Monday, July 1st.

The Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft carrying the crew formed of Kathleen Rubins of NASA, Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov of the Russian space agency Roscosmos blasts off to the International Space Station (ISS) from the launchpad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.
This will the last Soyuz flight that we will pay to launch Americans into space. Under the space agencies’ current plans, U.S. astronauts will continue flying on Soyuz spacecraft and Russian cosmonauts will launch and land on the new U.S. vehicles under a barter arrangement, with no funds exchanged.

#NASA has identified the cost of sending astronauts to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket at $81 million per seat. Before the Space Shuttle program retired, NASA said it cost an average of $450 million each mission to launch the spacecraft.

It cost $55m for a seat on SpaceX’s Dragon crew capsule, atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Notice the apples & oranges argument. Per seat for Soyuz and per mission on the shuttle. The shuttle could seat eight people.

This photo released by NASA shows the outside of the OSIRIS-REx sample collector. Sample material from asteroid Bennu can be seen at the middle right. A preliminary assessment conducted by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx science team found evidence of both carbon and water in the initial analysis of this material. The spacecraft that collected the asteroid sample was launched in 2016 and traveled an estimated 3.86 billion miles before it first landed on the Bennu asteroid in 2020. NASA said during a live stream Wednesday that Bennu asteroid samples collected by the OSIRIS-Rex mission contain water, carbon and organic molecules —— the building blocks of life.”

I never to physics, why the hell does it do that? Seems to defy physics in my eyes.

LINK I took physics, but this is way over my head.

I can kinda understand, (not the equations didn’t pay much attention to those), but how it can flip like that is weird. Whether I understand or not, it is pretty cool to watch.

Trouble with one of the Hubble Space Telescope’s three remaining gyroscopes, critical for aiming and locking onto targets, has prompted mission managers to switch to a backup control mode that will limit some observations, but keep the iconic observatory running well into the 2030s.

NASA launched its most powerful rocket yet, the Space Launch System, on Wednesday to send the crewed Artemis II mission to the moon, the first in more than five decades. The mission had liftoff around 6:35 p.m. EDT from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The four-person crew -- which also includes NASA’s Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen -- is expected to enter the moon’s orbit in about six days. The spacecraft won’t land on the moon, but will orbit around it before returning to Earth.

Almost six months after NASA lost contact with the spacecraft, the agency has declared the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Environment satellite unrecoverable and its mission concluded. The MAVEN mission was the first successful one dedicated to observing Mars’ atmosphere and its evolution. It orbited the planet for more than 11 years, far longer than its planned one-year lifespan.
