I managed to get Tracey’s #VW bug through the drift in front of the garage and out to Mom’s trailer. It was touch and go a couple of times.

Still no water so I called the #OakLawn office and Mark came out to look things over. He removed the panel to the water heater in the front closet and also the side skirting to get to the shut off valve. He couldn’t shut the water off as the valve is frozen open but couldn’t see any leaks under the trailer.

He told me the flexible plastic pipes don’t “usually” freeze but it could still happen. He told me to come back and check every day and he would let me know if they had any calls of water running out from under the trailer.

I told him to shut the water off if that happened and let me know. I even managed to get the VW back into the garage when I got home —— but just barely.

Two guys showed up at the trailer yesterday to install our water meter. The water was included in our lot rent but now we will be paying for it. To be honest I don’t know why it took this long. People water grass and wash cars around #OakLawn like the water is free. Bet that stops.

Tracey stocked up on $40 worth of chocolate and candy for Halloween. Not one ghost or goblin. Nobody came to our door. I was so surprised. I thought we would have so many kids we would run out of candy. What a change from twenty years ago when our kids came here for treats and the streets were packed with kids. Really surprised and a little disappointed.

We got another notice from #OakLawn that our water will be shut off today. That’s twice in two months with a boil order to follow. I think we will end up paying for all of this work in the long run. I’m pretty sure all this work is about getting the new water meters to work properly so they can begin billing us for the water we use.

I missed the water shutoff event yesterday either when I went grocery shopping or during my nap. There was air in our lines so I know it happened but just not when. They have put up large red signs at all the entrances to the trailer park proclaiming a boil order is in effect.

I had saved up a couple large containers of water —— enough to last us a few days. I won’t be boiling any water.

I’m still a bit disgruntled about the mess the park made of the roads with the sloppy plow job. What a waste of gas and money. I’m sure I’m not the only person who feels this way but I’m also pretty sure it doesn’t matter to the people who manage the place.

I plan to get out the little electric snow blower and see how it does but I have my doubts now that the snow is packed up on the sidewalk by the snow plow idiot. I want to at least get a path to the mail box.

I called the #OakLawn trailer park office several times yesterday but they aren’t answering the phone. My guess would be a lot of people are complaining about the lousy snow removal.

I called the #MortonVillage information number and the lady listened politely but assured me the village could do nothing on private property. She was sympathetic but not very helpful.

So I called the mayor. Had to leave a message, of course, but he did call me back. He said he would look into it but I have my doubts.

The one thing that did catch his interest was when I explained there were a lot of us old farts out shoveling mountains of snow and I wondered how an ambulance, fire truck or police car would get to one of us when we had a heart attack. Public access seemed to ring a bell for him.

I still doubt anything will change. But I tried.

Evidently the #OakLawn trailer park snow clearing squad decided to remove some of the piles of snow and brought out a skid loader to scoop them up. They then dumped the snow in the yards of several trailers leaving the big piles of snow, dirt, road salt, etc. up next to the trailers. Ought to be a lot of dead grass and messy yards come Spring.

These people are so incompetent it hurts. While the skid loader was doing this the idiot in the white pickup truck took a few more high speed passes down the road with the plow. He didn’t do anything productive besides plow in all the driveways again.

Several people were standing out in their driveways watching this insanity and shaking their heads. The guy that was getting his yard filled with snow started shouting and waving at the idiot in the skid loader and the skid loader finally stopped and left.

I would guess this was the punishment for people complaining about the snow removal fiasco. I’ve called every day since last Saturday and they are still not answering the phone. I left a nasty message last Saturday but none since. Why bother?

So the young morons playing in the snow probably went back to the office and told them they cleared the road when all they really did was piss everybody off on this side of the road. There is still 15 feet of unplowed snow next to the curb. Only now it is a few inches deeper and all the driveways were buried again. Stupid.

#OakLawn I don’t think we got as much snow yesterday as had been forecast but it was really windy. I heard a snowplow go by before dawn but it wasn’t the usual madman in the white pickup. Maybe they’ve contracted with someone else or maybe the city took a pass down our drive? The result is the same. The road has one very narrow cleared lane and the rest is drifted shut.

The park roads are like a skating rink but the rest of the roads were completely clear. We can hardly wait for more snow on top of all that ice.

The weather forecast says we will be getting some deep freeze temperatures over the next week or so. I worry about freezing pipes in this trailer so I will be concerned how that goes until after we get through it. I have no particular reason to believe this will be a problem but I know trailers are notorious for that.

The white truck just went by spreading salt.
I hate to break it to them but putting out salt just before dark a few hours before temps plummet below zero is a little late. They should have done that late yesterday so it would’ve had all day today to actually melt something.

I went by the #OakLawn office to pay my $10 garbage pick-up bill and I mentioned the snow plowing fiasco. Raw nerve there.

The gal behind the counter went off on a tirade about how they couldn’t please anybody whether they plowed or not. It took all my willpower to restrain my answer.

I said something to the effect that if they actually plowed the snow properly everybody would be happier. I suggested they call Walmart, Kroger or any other commercial enterprise and ask who professionally removes all the snow from their lots overnight.

She harrumphed that would not be “cost effective”. At least she admits they are doing it on the cheap.

We found a flyer from the new “homeowners association” stuffed in our mailbox. They are having another meeting this weekend and have invited everyone in the park evidently. They want $10 yearly dues.

I’m not interested in sitting on a folding chair in a church basement just yet but Tracey might want to go. Once you sign up for these things you eventually are required to abide by their rules.

I’ve read the horror stories about these “associations” forcing people to fly flags or not fly them, plant flowers, whatever. I’m not interested in any of that and I’m not so sure they will have the clout to make the park plow the roads or provide better services.

One thing I’ve noticed since moving into #OakLawn is that the Morton police seem to patrol through here an awful lot. I don’t know if that is normal and I just notice because I’m not used to living in town or the place is just that crime ridden.

A year ago this month #OakLawn management had water meters installed on every trailer. They started charging for water after the first of this year.

Tracey commented recently that suddenly all those bright green lawns are now awfully brown and weedy. Amazing how it changes the look of the park. I suspect they will have more trouble selling trailers in mid-summer because it doesn’t look near as nice.

I have an automatic payment set up at CEFCU for our lot rent. They mail out a check, but it is in a plain brown envelope. #OakLawn receives that in the mail between the 15th and 17th each month.

So I go online to see if the bill is paid but there is nothing there and I call them. Round and round we go. The idiots they have running this park are unsurpassed.

They refuse to open the mail and record the payment until it’s due on the first of the month. My problem is because it doesn’t like look a payment the check has been tossed in the junk mail bin.

I can’t get the fools to open their damn mail and record a payment the day they get it. They insist on waiting until the payment is past due to do that. Then they tack on a $50 late fee.

Their suggested solution is that I drive up to their office and personally hand them a check. As if that is any guarantee they will record the payment as received on time.

We got another boil order notice from the park. They are going to flush the water system. Again. They have been messing with this for over a year now and it is really getting old. We got a letter from #OakLawn Trailer Park management stating that they were going to stop charging for water use and trash pickup. And that they would be coming around to remove the water meters they installed last year. Evidently the pressure from renters, the health department, the EPA, etc. has finally convinced them to reverse the attempt to force this cost on renters.

I suspect next they will simply raise the lot rent by at least twice the amount that water and trash pickup actually cost.

The crazy kid in the pickup truck went flying up and down the road yesterday trying to plow the snow. I’m still amazed he doesn’t crash into a parked car the way he drives. The snow wasn’t deep enough to need to be plowed so now we have a drift in front of our drive. Again. #OakLawn

Our lane was crawling with plumbers yesterday. Literally. All day. They were crawling under trailers removing the water meters that had been illegally installed last fall. I don’t know what the final determination was but evidently the IEPA and the State Plumber ruled against the park management.

Every dog in the neighborhood was barking all day and I suspect they will be at it again today, tomorrow and the foreseeable future.

We notified the trailer park management several years ago that there were trees behind our house that were dead or dying. We were concerned they would eventually get blown over onto the house or porch.

Yesterday, without warning, a big truck pulled into the yard and three guys started cutting up those trees. They left some big ruts in the yard with their equipment but it is good to have the trees gone.

We received an interesting and odd letter from the trailer park management about the lease. We won’t sign a new lease because IL law doesn’t require signatures for lease renewal. And I’m not about to make an appointment to sign meaningless forms just to make them happy. These people have too much nerve.

Now they sent along a form we MUST fill out explaining WHY I won’t sign the lease. Why on Earth would anyone sign a letter to say they are refusing to sign something else. I pitched it.

It also mentioned they sent a certified letter that wasn’t delivered? I think that is a bunch of bull. They sent this form letter to many people in the park and none of them received a certified letter about anything. There is a Facebook group for the park and we share this kind of stuff. (That’s where I got the blurry photo of the form letter.)

I just wish the roads would get plowed.

#OakLawn has been under a boil order for at least a week now, so I sent an email to the office asking for an update. Once again we had somebody come knocking on our door saying they are from Cilco (happened two years ago too) and want to check our electric bill to see if they can save us some money. Tracey sent them packing. They were wearing #Ameren Cilco name tags and had it embroidered on their shirts, but I still think it is some kind of scam. I wish #OakLawn management would stop these clowns from bothering people.

#OakLawn still isn’t properly notifying people about boil orders. They put a sign up at the north entrance and that is all. $12.30 trash service fee and $4 admin service fee per month. Don’t know if it is everybody, but would assume so. Nothing in our lease about these junk fees. I suspect this will eventually be rescinded because it is against the law to change terms outside of the lease. These people are such grifters.
