I looked up #ParsonWeems in high school. I was astounded to read all the outright fiction this guy passed off as fact. Really opened my eyes to the question of historical accuracy.

In 1759, Mason Locke “Parson” Weems was born. He is remembered for his fictitious stories that he presented as fact. He was responsible for the story about George Washington cutting down his father’s cherry tree. #ParsonWeems #GeorgeWashington I discovered this guy while reading in the high school library my sophomore year.
