We got a letter in the mail from #Caterpillar explaining how they have screwed us around on our medical again. Starting the first of the year they will only pay for prescriptions at #PharmacyWalmart or #PharmacyWalgreens. I’m already getting mine mail-order from Walgreen’s but Mom was happy with the pharmacy at Kmart so now she will have to switch. There are going to be a lot of unhappy people, especially the pharmacies.

Tracey went to #OSF a week ago today, then faxed in her prescriptions. We still don’t have them from the #PharmacyWalgreens mail order pharmacy. They are supposed to be “in the mail” but that doesn’t do her much good now.

We can’t even figure out who dropped the ball but it sounds like both the pharmacy and the clinic got tangled up in playing phone and fax tag over not being able to read a poorly written date on the fax. Modern medical science at work.

I ordered my #Insulin from #PharmacyWalgreens mail order about a week ago and have been nervous about it not getting here yet. I finally did some tracking and discovered it was supposed to have been dropped off at our doorstep days ago.

It took me a while to find this because although they gave me a tracking number they didn’t bother to tell me who was supposed to deliver it. Fed Ex evidently left it on the doorstep of somebody else. I will call this morning and find out what I’m supposed to do now.

After breakfast I went to the #PharmacyWalgreens on Broadway Rd. in Pekin to pick up some insulin. I was told both Walgreen’s stores in Pekin were out of insulin and I had to go to the one in East Peoria to get it. How’s that for corporate efficiency?

I got another call from #PharmacyWalgreens Mail-Order Pharmacy yesterday. I have been trying for almost a month to get my 1 ml. insulin syringes. Evidently the prescription ran out and that little girl doctor at #TremontClinic decided to get involved.

She had already meddled with one prescription and changed my blood sugar meds without permission or telling me. I quit going to her over a year ago and still she is screwing with me.

This time she changed my syringe and needle size. I called the clinic and told them I did not want this dizzy dame to ever, EVER, mess with my prescriptions. NEVER, EVER AGAIN is what I told the hapless lady who answered the phone.

She tried to tell me it was their “policy” for the doctor in the office to renew prescriptions.

I told her there is a huge difference between renewing a standing prescription and changing it every time she gets a whim. I want the right needles and I want them on time.

I also asked to have the results of my blood tests faxed or mailed to me. She says they are still in the doctor’s IN basket and they want the doctor to “share the results”.

The tests were done on the 13th and they haven’t been looked at by the 22nd?

I told her I didn’t care where they were, I was paying for them and I wanted them. At least I could look at them since it doesn’t appear the doctor wants to “share” them.

I got home in time to take a nap but the phone went off and woke me up just as I went to sleep. It was the #PharmacyWalgreens in Pekin calling to tell me my prescription was ready. Once again the #TremontClinic screwed up and sent it to the wrong place. I am supposed to get all my prescriptions via Walgreen’s Mail Order but they can’t seem to get that right. After two phone calls to get that straightened out I was too aggravated to take a nap.

Well after two weeks, eight calls to #PharmacyWalgreens Mail Order, two calls to the #TremontClinic, two calls to RESTAT (my drug insurance) and four calls to the local Walgreen’s pharmacy —— I finally have the proper blood sugar pills.

I got them from the Walgreen’s in Pekin.

Sheesh what an ordeal. I will eventually get the wrong pills in the mail and then a mailer to send them back in. Hopefully that will all go as planned or we will have to start all over again.

All this nonsense because the pharmacies and the insurance companies are in charge and are too greedy to run an efficient operation. I suspect all this run-around is designed to discourage people and many people just do without or continue to take drugs that don’t work as well for them. What happened to America?

Remember my Curmudgeon comment a few days past about our mail order #PharmacyWalgreens sending us a generic drug and charging full price for it?

Well perhaps Tracey’s phone call to complain might have helped. We got a check in the mail Saturday for $90 as a reimbursement. So I wonder if everybody got reimbursed or only those who complained?

I need to remember to go to #PharmacyWalgreens and pick up the rest of my blood sugar medications. They ran out and had to “special order” them after they only had enough for two months when I was supposed to get 90 days of them. Who would have thought even a pharmacy can’t keep pills in stock?

MjL

I just got back from a short run to town. I wasn’t planning on going until I discovered I was out of one of my blood sugar medications. #PharmacyWalgreens is supposed to “auto refill” but they didn’t. I should have known better than to rely on them. No big deal, I called and they said they would have the refill ready by 8:30 this morning.

So I took Tracey to work, stopped by the grocery store for a few things and then to Walgreen’s. They gave me five days worth of pills and told me “the rest of your 90-day supply will be in after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.”

Seriously? A major drug chain can’t stock a very common pill for more that a five-day supply? I guess I should just go back to ordering them a week ahead of time, but that wasn’t working so good either. It is always something!

I got a call from the #PharmacyWalgreens Mail Order Pharmacy yesterday —— they can’t get the #TremontClinic to renew any of my prescriptions. I explained they were holding my drugs ransom until I went to my appointment (which is later today). Once I have shaken the doctor’s hand and we exchange a few pleasantries (and, of course, pay a large fee) they will then renew my drugs. Otherwise I guess they will just let me die. I explained all this too the nice lady from the pharmacy and she agreed -- she hears it every day.

Yesterday was a bad day for dealing with Walgreen’s. A week ago I called the Court St. #PharmacyWalgreens to tell them one of my prescriptions would need filling. It is the only one I get from them because they have to “special order” my brand because the generic doesn’t work as well.

I go through the usual routine of having to tell the clerk that, NO, they don’t stock it because the generic they stock is not the version I need. I explain that I am calling a week early so they will have time to order the three months supply of 180 tablets. I stress the fact that the last two times I drove to Pekin from Tremont only to have them give me a partial refill because they had to order it and then had to make another trip to town.

So I take Tracey to work yesterday and on the way I stop at Walgreen’s on Court Street. They give me 10 tablets out of the 180 —— again. I can’t for the life of me understand what more I can do to get these people to order them ahead and NOT notify me my prescription is ready when it is not!

It gets better (actually worse), when I went to the doctor last Friday they agreed to increase my insulin order from five vials every three months to seven vials. This is through the mail order Walgreen’s. I got an email telling me they have shipped five vials.

So I call the #TremontClinic and they say they did it right and I call the Walgreen’s Mail Order and they say they didn’t and I call the Tremont Clinic and they say they will take care of it. We seem to have our own kind of special bad luck when it comes to these things?

My #PharmacyWalgreens mail order prescriptions arrived by UPS and I was absolutely amazed that it was all there as it supposed to be —— so either the pharmacy or the #TremontClinic got that straightened out after I called. Good deal. I also got a call from the Walgreen’s in town saying they finally got that one right too but I haven’t been there yet to see for myself.

A while ago I got a letter from my prescription drug provider RESTAT. It said I would have to switch to a different blood glucose meter and gave me a web site to go to. So I go and order it up.

The new meter arrived a couple days ago and is pretty nice. So I call the #TremontClinic and tell them to send the prescription for the new test strips and lancets.

I got an email yesterday from the #PharmacyWalgreens telling me those aren’t covered by my insurance. WTH? So now I get to spend time emailing and talking on the phone to figure out which idiot screwed this up. Why can’t things ever be simple?

We were almost in a car wreck on Court St. on the way to #PharmacyWalgreens; some idiot pulled right out in front of us.

I amazed myself with my quick reactions but we were just lucky there wasn’t a car to our right because I quickly dodged to the right and if there had been a car there we would have hit it.

Adding insult to injury, the two cars ahead of us at Walgreen’s evidently hadn’t sent in their prescriptions ahead of time and we had to wait a long time for the pharmacy to put their drugs together.

Tracey and I agree there should be a slow lane just for those people or they should be required to go inside to wait for them instead of clogging up the drive through.

Just an example of the crazy stupid idiocy that goes on today; I got an email from #PharmacyWalgreens Mail Order Pharmacy telling me my insulin was being shipped by “standard mail” and I should allow “ten days” for delivery. So I go to the web site and they tell me the order shipped on January 1st, 1906. That is not a typo; it was shipped over a hundred years ago. Seriously? So I call them up and find out it shipped today next day delivery (tomorrow) by UPS and will be on ice. Good to know. I just wish they could have told me that with either of the high tech choices of email or web page.

Due to a series of screw ups I had to spend $40 to get some glucose test strips today.

About two weeks ago I ordered refills on the #PharmacyWalgreens web site to have a ninety day supply mailed to me. About a week ago I received an email that a thirty day supply was ready at the local Walgreen’s in Pekin.

So I called Walgreen’s mail order to explain it was screwed up and they blamed my doctor’s office for that. Doesn’t surprise me.

I called last Saturday and was told they would “expedite” my order and I would receive them yesterday. Didn’t happen. Anyway I ran out of test strips yesterday.

I called again this morning and was told I could pick up an “emergency” supply but the local pharmacy said no I couldn’t once I arrived there.

After several phone calls back and forth it was decided that since they were in the mail it wasn’t an emergency and I could either wait for them to get here or buy some over the counter because my insurance had already paid for the 90 day supply in the mail.

Since I can’t really administer my insulin without knowing what my blood sugar is I decided I better buy some. I told the people at Walgreen’s mail order that if I die because of insulin overdose or high blood sugar coma my lawyers would own their pharmacy and disconnected the call.

Empty threat I realize because they couldn’t care less whether I live or die, it is just a job.

I received a call from #PharmacyWalgreens mail order pharmacy yesterday; my insulin price tripled to $375 for three months under my new insurance plan.

I told them to put a hold on shipping the Humalog until I could see if there was a cheaper option.

I called the insurance company and was told that another brand, Novalog or Novalin, would be the “preferred option” for my insurance. One is $16 and the other has no co-pay, it is completely covered.

Then I called #TremontClinic to begin the usual run around to get my prescription changed from one brand to another. As usual the girl who answered the phone the first time didn’t know anything and said “somebody” would call me back.

Two hours later I called again and a different girl told me the doctor would have to make the decision and they would call me back today. Fat chance of that happening. I just hope against reason that the message about WHY I want to change it is passed along to the doctor.

Another insulin update:
I checked on my #Insulin shipment with FedEx and discovered #PharmacyWalgreens Mail Order had canceled the shipment. I called Walgreens and they don’t seem to know from nothing. So I got a Case Number. I feel so much better knowing I have a Case Number. Now I wait 24 - 48 hours for a call back to learn why they canceled the shipment. Meanwhile I am down to half a vial of insulin and counting. Gotta love modern medicine and the #MedicalMafia.

I just got a call from #PharmacyWalgreens Mail Order. Excitement! They are calling me back to tell me they have solved the problem and they are shipping my #Insulin?

No such luck. Just an automated survey wanting to know how delighted I am with the answers I got when I called last time. But of course there is no way they include the ability to tell them I got no answer at all and am still WAITING FOR AN ANSWER! And, NO, I am not happy with their service when they can’t answer a simple question like, “Why the heck did you cancel my insulin shipment?”

Not rocket surgery here —— ought to be a clear answer as to whom is responsible for the cancellation and why? I just wish they were this clueless when it comes to sending me a bill. How come they never make mistakes in MY favor? I mean, the law of averages would suggest at least once those “honest mistakes” would be in my favor?

Tracey reminded me yesterday morning that I needed to get a flu shot.

So I went online and made an appointment at #PharmacyWalgreens for 11:30 a.m. I downloaded the forms, printed them out, filled out the blanks and signed them.

I arrived at 11:15 to find six people in line ahead of me. After ten minutes in line I finally got through and sat down to wait with the other six people waiting.

A few minutes later I was called up and handed a clipboard with forms to fill out —— the same forms I had just given them already. Not so too organized.

At 11:45 they finally started calling people in and I asked some of the people when their appointment was for. None of them had an appointment —— they were just taking us in order of when we got in line. So no point in making the appointment I guess. I got through just a bit past noon.

Another thing. I wasn’t once asked for any identification. So if you know somebody with good insurance just go stand in line and give them their name for a free flu shot.

I think I’ve finally got my insulin order straight. Again. It seems every time the clinic renews my prescription it gets f’ed up. I take NovoLIN not NovoLOG. So of course somebody at Walgreen’s mail order screwed that up. And with every call I am treated as if I either don’t know what I’m talking about (I’ve only been injecting myself with the stuff for years) or “somebody else” made a mistake.

It took several calls between the clinic and Walgreen’s to get it right. I hope.

I went to #PharmacyWalgreens in Pekin and got a flu shot yesterday. Last year I went to all the trouble of filling out an online form, printing it and getting an appointment. I am amazed that I actually got a call from #Caterpillar benefits this morning to reassure me that the changes to insurance coverage do NOT pertain to me as I had retired in 2003. I suggested in future they might want to send us a letter too so we don’t have to hear this stuff on the grapevine. Retirees do talk to each other.

I got the call while I was having breakfast with my brother Alan. I also got a call from #PharmacyWalgreens saying they had requested the doctor office renew my prescription and had heard nothing back.

That’s nothing new. They rarely renew my prescriptions unless I call at least a couple times. Efficient they are not.

Two phone calls in one morning. That’s more than I usually get in a week or more. And they had to be while I was at the local cafe?

I had a 9:00 appointment at a #PharmacyWalgreens to get my flu shot yesterday morning. I made the appointment the night before on the Internet thinking it might save me some time.

I arrived a half-hour early knowing there would be a clipboard full of forms to fill out. About five minutes later I handed over the clipboard and sat back down just as a another customer came up to the counter. She asked the girl at the counter if she needed an appointment for a flu shot. She was told no, they take walk ins. She stood at the counter filling our her forms and then sat down. At about 8:45 she was taken back to the room and a few minutes later she was done and left.

I went back to the counter and asked if I had to wait until 9:00 or could they take me next. She said, “Well, you do have a 9:00 appointment?” I thought about it a moment and decided it wasn’t worth arguing about.

As I was turning to go sit down again I had a thought. I turned back and asked if I could cancel my appointment and just go in as a walk in? She raised her eyebrows and said, “I guess so.”

I sat back down. At 9:00 sharp I was led into the room to get my shot after waiting about ten minutes. I don’t know if it took them that long to get to me or if I had to wait until my appointment time?

Food for thought.

Busy day yesterday. Started out with a grocery run and back home to haul it all in and put it away. Then to Pekin to #PharmacyWalgreens to get my flu shot. Had to wait in line about a half-hour. I wanted to get the new Shingles vaccine too but they were out of that. I had them put my name on the list.

I stopped at UPS to have a vacuum cleaner attachment returned. The silly thing had been assembled backwards at the factory. It was cheaply made in the first place but of no use the way it was assembled.

Last I stopped at the #TremontHouse to air it out a little and make sure all the doors were still locked. Also to pick up the trash left by the last people to wander through. Would you leave an empty fast food cup sitting on the counter of a stranger’s home? Me either.

Our realtor says we now have two buyers in the “maybe” column. I replied that he should tell them to make an offer. I’m not going to lower the price just because they say it is too high. Make an offer and we can go from there.

I spent yesterday morning at the pulmonologist’s office. I had a few lung function tests which confirm my #COPD is getting worse.
(I didn’t quit smoking soon enough)

The doctor prescribed two different inhalers but I should only take one. One of them isn’t covered by my insurance but he gave me a coupon I could use. Without the coupon it is $525 per month. Ouch!

I went to the #PharmacyWalgreens to see how the coupon works and what the copay for the other one is so I could decide which way to go. The pharmacy tech was pretty slow about it all. She couldn’t figure out the prices because they are out of stock on both. The only way she knows how to get the price is ring it up and cancel the one you don’t want. I left without my inhaler.

We need to find a new pharmacy. Tracey usually picks up her prescriptions from the #PharmacyWalgreens in E. Peoria because it is on her way home from work. She got an email saying they didn’t have her prescription on time the other day so she didn’t stop.

Yesterday morning she got an email they had it, so we went there and waited in line for fifteen minutes to find out they don’t have it after all. This is the third or fourth time we have waited in that horrendous line for nothing after a drive down there.

My last insulin order was short one vial by my calculations so I went to the #PharmacyWalgreens web site and checked. All future renewals are also short one vial for each 90 day prescription.

I called the mail order people and ended up being told they could only send me enough for 86 days. After doing some math I think I figured out what they are doing now. Instead of rounding up to the next full vial they are rounding down and shorting me by four days. Even more than that when you consider three months is actually more than 90 days.

It costs less than $20 to manufacture a vial of insulin and they are charging hundreds per vial. And now cheating patients to boot.
