Richard Pryor Jr emotionally reaches out Thursday to touch a bust honoring his father, Richard Pryor, as it is unveiled at John H. Gwynn Park near the neighborhood where his father was born and raised. Joining Pryor is Robert Johnson, center, a trustee on the Peoria Park District board. The comedy legend, who died in 2005, was known to have performed just across the street at the George Washington Carver Community Center when he was a student. Local artist R. Rashad Reed created the bust in the style of the Olmec civilization, one of the oldest known civilizations in the Americas.

That has got to be about the ugliest sculpture of a person I have ever seen —— but then I thought he was an ugly man with his foul-mouthed comedy. #RichardPryor #RichardPryor MjL

In 2005, Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor died in Encino, CA, at age 65. #RichardPryor I never thought much of Richard Pryor. I remember listening to the police scanner the night he shot up his wife’s car.

In 1980, comedian Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor Sr suffered almost fatal burns at his San Fernando Valley, CA, home while freebasing cocaine. #RichardPryor I don’t think I ever saw my Dad laugh so hard as he did when this happened. He hated Richard Pryor with a burning passion. (Pun intended.)
