Seriously. Math is like baking. This concept really highlights just how much these people truly don’t understand how badly they confuse kids with this bullshit because math is not like baking, or color by number, or number lines, or anything else. Math in every way is like MATH. It was NEVER taught like a recipe —— it was taught by picturing units of real world things like this many apples plus this many apples is how many apples? Common Core tries to teach in the abstract what we used to teach, and should teach, in the real world —— not a bunch of hoodoo number lines and #Ridiculous complicated nonsense.
Number sense? Seriously? So we develop a new language to describe simple mathematics instead of just teaching simple math. Kids understand how to count things. Heck, even your dog knows when you take two treats and only give him one. You don’t need a number line or “Number Sense”. The concepts are much easier to understand when you stick to reality instead of trying to teach abstract concepts to grade school kids. A jar of pennies would make much more sense in learning to add and subtract instead of an imaginary world built around “Number Sense”.
So they show a list of all the countries that do better than America does in math. Want to bet how many of them teach to the test. How many of them have the same people designing Common Core stupid to standardize education so you HAVE to use it to pass THEIR test? Education isn’t an industry in those countries. They teach math to make their students more educated —— not to make money off the process by selling snake oil like Common Core.
Then they try to make it sound like people over 20 are to blame because they don’t recognize their snake oil process. Of course anyone who truly understands math understands what they are up to —— I don’t get angry because I “don’t recognize” what they are doing. I get angry because what they are doing is needlessly complicated and confusing for children to learn math. And those social media examples that circulate don’t just seem really nonsensical, they are truly nonsense!
I think everybody should circulate this goofy video and really listen to the bullshit being spewed. I mean pay attention and understand that she is trying to SELL this process instead of explain it because you can’t explain stupid to somebody who understands you clearly have no clue how people learn a new process. KISS is the best teaching method. Keep It Simple Stupid. And Common Core is the most complicated teaching method for The Flavor of the Month teaching process.
