Here is a quote straight out of the Peoria Journal Star on their Labor Day weekend editorial column.

“On the one hand, a position at McDonald’s or Dunkin’ Donuts or wherever arguably was designed for the most part to be a first, secondary job, not a last, head of household one — for the teen living at home with his parents, not the 40-something supporting children of her own — certainly not a career with full time hours and benefits.”

The simple fact is a position at any company is designed to make that company money. This crap about certain jobs being so low level or being “designed” for menial workers is ridiculous and insulting.

The real question this Labor Day weekend and every day is —— Why does our society put up with this kind of nonsense attitude that says the business can be a hugely profitable global enterprise at the hands of child labor as stated by the Journal Star?

Or that the work is menial because “anyone can do it”. Do you suppose the authors of this pro-business rant think their job is so difficult that only they can do it?

I have read better grammar and syntax from high school students and they write for the student newspaper for free.

So long as we allow those who apologize for corporate greed to determine our “worth” as a person —— our country will continue to decline. And make no mistake, our country IS in decline.

I went to the Journal Star Facebook page and posted the comment shown above. It was deleted about ten minutes later. Imagine that. A newspaper that wants no dissenting views.

There is another high profile story in the news. This time an NFL player knocked his fiancé unconscious and the event was recorded on an elevator camera. And now a lot of people want to fire the NFL commissioner for not doing more about it.

Don’t get me wrong —— I think domestic abuse is wrong and should be punished. But I question whether, as a society, we should be pushing for employers or other outside agencies to take action.

We have a judicial system that should be doing this duty. Do we really want to make employers responsible for taking action? Should a small business owner fire an employee because they receive a report about an employee? Should we take action against that business owner if they don’t? How far do we take this vigilante approach to law enforcement?

It is my opinion that when law enforcement and the judicial system fail to correct these problems we should address that —— not start pushing employers, churches, banks or others to take vigilante action against people.

Of course employers have every right to make decisions about the people they want to employ. And consumers and customers have a right to judge business about who they hire. But I think we should understand that when we start advocating vigilante justice outside an established system of legal action —— we are asking for trouble.

In 2017 Pepsi aired a ridiculous ad with a member of the Kardashian klan and it predictably flopped. Major networks air this bullshit as *News*. Same when Michael Jackson set his hair on fire. Or when Richard Pryor set his face on fire. Etc.

Somehow I can’t see Walter Cronkite announcing something like this as anything but bad humor as the closing segment.

I saw the headline below to a MSM link on Twitter:

A thought-provoking new ad from Heineken has been getting a much warmer response than Pepsi received

So now we are dissecting and examining commercial television ads to determine how “thought provoking” and “socially relevant” they are?

It is bad enough Super Bowl ads have been treated like fine art and now we have to pretend all ads have some other purpose than parting you from your hard earned cash for an overpriced commodity?

A topic of Washington, DC #SocialCommentary. NOBODY wants to work for the Twitler administration. These jobs at all levels were coveted as stepping stones for a great future in politics and / or civil service. Now they are the kiss of death.

I haven’t seen any of these commercials. And I don’t shave. But it all sounds pretty loony to me. We’ve gone from idolizing Super Bowl commercials to making them everyday #SocialCommentary. It is a commercial, it has no morality. It is a greedy commercial trying to part you from your cash.

This was a great ad for Gillette. Their name is on everyone’s lips. Never mind the message is mostly #SocialCommentary psychobabble. They have no more social conscience than a flea. But they have created a media circus to help sell their products.

Social media blurb about mandatory classes in school to teach cursive writing. I asked if they were going to make slide rules mandatory too?

One young lady sniped that I must have never had to “sign” for a home loan?

I said indeed I just completed a series of loans, sales, and closings over the past year and did it all on the Internet where I signed nothing.

In fact, I pointed out, since the early 1700s it has been perfectly legal to sign something with an X and have somebody else witness it with an X because the signatures mean nothing. It has to be recorded and filed with the local government to be valid anyway.

She countered with credit card receipts.

I countered that I don’t sign them either. I just scribble some squiggly lines and everybody is happy. I coulda been a doctor.

A perfect melee ensued and I left. I don’t deal well with ignorance.
