I really do wish these right wing nuts would pay attention to
current events. #Medicare and #SocialSecurity were already
solvent for at least a couple decades and this latest “deal”
just raised payroll taxes on everybody by 2% specifically to
pay for those two programs. Buy a vowel please?

I reached one of those milestones in life that really make you feel old. I applied for my #SocialSecurity benefits yesterday. As with most government web sites I don’t know if I am now done with the process or if I have to provide copies of my birth certificate, marriage license, etc. They say they will let me know.

I got an email yesterday from the #SocialSecurity system. It seems my application for benefits has been approved and I will start receiving benefits in August. This is an even bigger milestone than getting my AARP card!

My very first #SocialSecurity check was deposited into our checking account today. Talk about your mixed feelings!

My first thought upon reading the notice was, “Aw Geez! I got old all of a sudden!” immediately followed by, “Yes! I’m FINALLY getting back some of all that money they’ve been taking from me all these years!”

I’m sure it won’t take long before it becomes a routine I don’t even think about —— but for this morning it seems like a big deal.

The last few lines about changing reality - that is the
problem with lying liars like liar Korn Pop. They deny reality
every day until they lose any perception of the real world.
They live in their own world of lies. #SocialSecurity #Medicare

Unusual Social Security email touts Trump bill. An email from the agency praised the bill, but only some recipients will see savings. Here’s what the legislation means for seniors. There are many Social Security recipients and seniors who won’t get a tax cut, however. About 5% of retired Social Security beneficiaries are ages 62 to 64. There are also deceased workers’ survivors and disabled workers who are younger than 65. Among those 65 and older, many have incomes below the standard deduction of $14,600 per person or $29,200 per couple, so they already aren’t paying income taxes anyway. At the other end of the spectrum, the deduction phases out for individuals making more than $75,000 or couples earning more than $150,000.

The Social Security Administration told Congress on Tuesday that the trust fund to pay retirement benefits could run out in late 2032, which is three months earlier than it was projected to in its last report in June 2025. The money that funds payments comes from payroll taxes, but when more money is paid out than is brought in, the trust fund makes up the difference. The administration released its annual trustees report Tuesday. The report said that if the fund gets depleted, Social Security will be able to pay only 78% of its retirement benefits.
