I agree with most of the points in this article. I really hate feeling required to give a tip to a waiter or waitress who barely brings me my order much less any other courtesy. Like filling my drink. Actually paying attention to WHAT I ordered instead of what the menu said I should get. Bringing the bill to me in a timely manner so I don’t have to wait forever (and a day) so I can pay and get away. ETC.

On the other hand I understand they are underpaid, understaffed and overworked. I’m actually a pretty good tipper. I try to give them a decent tip but there have been times when crappy service has resulted in a low tip.

I agree with the author —— wages should be provided by the employer and I could really do away with the whole tip / gratuity thing. It is a custom long since due to be banished.

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about banning the practice of tipping and just adding 20% onto the cost of things and giving that to the employees. Now I want to see a show of hands of all of you who believe employers will pass this extra cash along to the employees without pocketing any of it. Come on —— Hands UP! (The rest of you can move along, nothing for you to see here.)

Now to those of you remaining. Put your hands down and answer some questions. How much did the price of fuel go down when you had to start pumping your own gas? The cost savings to you in the price of food and merchandise now that you are checking yourself out, bagging your own stuff and hauling it out to your car without any help? All you folks who are now using those ATM machines that replaced all those helpful bank tellers —— remember how THAT was going to be a free convenience. How much do you pay now in ATM fees? And all you people eating off of paper wrappers with plastic spoons and having to throw your own trash away —— saving lots of time and money are you? Please don’t be duped again.

If you want a fair system of compensation for workers you raise their wages without any phony baloney shenanigans of raising prices with an empty promise of “sharing” with the workers. Just make a fair minimum wage law for ALL workers including wait staff. AND ENFORCE IT. And then continue to decide for yourself, guilt free, if your server deserves a “gratuity” or not and tell those business owners it isn’t up to them if you want to leave a tip or not. And vote with your dollars by not doing business with those employers who want to continue gouging you so they don’t have to pay their employees a fair wage.

We are being put into this #TippingCulture by the greed of the business owner that refuses to pay a living wage. People barely getting by at the mercy of others in the same boat who shouldn’t have to pay twice.

Seriously? How stupid do they think we are? Instead outlawing #TippingCulture and mandating a livable #MinimumWage, they fool with this?
