I stopped by the #USPS office yesterday to mail a small flat rate box - just like those commercials on TV - if it fits it ships for one low price?

I was informed I put too much tape on the box and had to cut some of it off. It seems there is a “rule” or a “policy” that if you put tape over the self-sealing flap on the box it will no longer qualify for the flat rate.

Somehow that extra little bit of tape tells the post office people that whatever is in the box might get out without that extra tape and so it must be something that doesn’t qualify for the flat rate.

I don’t think I have ever heard anything more stupid come out of a postal clerk’s mouth. It is no wonder the post office is going out of business!

I had ordered some stuff from Amazon.com a while back and it arrived yesterday. I found the box, which was too large to fit in the mailbox, perched precariously on top of the mailbox. Not good. I am surprised the wind hadn’t blown it off into the ditch. I will be writing a letter to the Tremont postmaster about this. #USPS

Once again I went out to the mailbox to find the mail carrier hadn’t arrived by 1 p.m. yesterday. They are usually there well before noon. So I took the mail they didn’t pick up Saturday and the mail I wanted out yesterday and went to the post office in Groveland to make sure it got mailed. I want to make sure the tuition money gets sent to ICC for Aaron & Ben. I don’t know if the mail ever arrived at our box yesterday —— I never went back to check.

A few days ago I went out to check the mail and found it scattered alongside the road next to our mailbox. I don’t know how that happened because the lid to the box was closed. Tracey and I decided it was time to replace the old mailbox so we went to Menard’s yesterday and bought the largest rural mailbox they had on the shelf. We spent about an hour tearing the old one down and putting the new one up. Hopefully this will resolve some of our #USPS mail issues.

There was a pretty little pink Post-it note on my mail yesterday. It said, “Love your new box!” with a smiley face.

I’m glad the mail lady likes our new mailbox —— now we will see if she can manage to get the mail into the box and close the lid so our mail doesn’t end up blowing all over the road. Which is what prompted getting the new mail box.

I made another trip to the Post Office yesterday and shipped off the last two boxes of Noah’s plunder. One of the boxes I used was an old box I got from Staples some time ago and it had the word “Staples” printed all over the box. The mail lady gave me grief about that saying that *technically* they weren’t supposed to ship a box with words on it. I bit my tongue and said nothing. (That’s amazing for me.) She shipped it anyway. So I guess *technically* it didn’t really matter and *technically* she just wanted to give me a hard time. Grrrr!

I wore out our DVR remote control (fast forwarding thru commercials, water skiing monkeys and stuff) so I ordered a new remote. I didn’t realize the darn thing was literally coming here on a slow boat from China. From there it went up to Chicago, then to Wisconsin and now back down to Missouri. Hopefully it will wander closer to my house here in central Illinois some time before Halloween. Or Thanksgiving. #USPS

Our daily mail usually isn’t too exciting but yesterday it was a source of consternation. Every morning I get an email from the #USPS, the “Informed Delivery Daily Digest”. It provides a scanned image of each piece of mail I should receive that day.

Yesterday I was supposed to get a letter from the Social Security office. It wasn’t there so I guess I can only hope whichever neighbor probably got it will be kind enough to deliver it to our box.

This happens two or three times a month. We either don’t get what we are supposed to or we get mail addressed to somebody else. I sometimes think I should call the post office and complain but I would hate to be the ogre that cost somebody their job.

We have a new mail guy. Since we came back from vacation he has not delivered our mail on two separate days. I get a notice from the post office “Informed Delivery” of what mail I should get each day. Wednesday he walked right by the mailbox and delivered nothing. We were supposed to get a Netflix movie. We got it yesterday.

He just walked by again today and we were supposed to get four pieces of mail. This time I went to the website and reported we didn’t get our mail.

He also doesn’t seem to understand the yellow ball on a spring is to notify us that we have mail. He always puts it back down. So I left it up this time and he walked right by. Go figure.

Tracey had two packages that the #USPS told us had been delivered yesterday morning but they weren’t here. She posted to the Oak Lawn Facebook group hoping maybe someone else in the trailer park had received them by mistake.

Late in the afternoon our neighbor one door over to the east brought them to her. The mail person missed by one house.

I used to complain bitterly about our mail service in Tremont and it would seem it is little better here in Morton.

#Memories
Last week I received an email from #USPS “Informed Delivery” that we had a package arriving from #Amazon on Friday.

On Friday (12/15) we received an email from USPS that it had been delivered at 10:05 a.m. Nothing was delivered. I checked our porch camera video and the postman walked right past our mailbox without delivering anything. We decided to wait. Sometimes they are late.

Still nothing Saturday or the following Monday, so on Tuesday I called the USPS and got an automated system that assured my package HAD been delivered. I asked the machine to connect me with a human and was told somebody would call me back. I then called the local number for the Morton Post Office and I was told they would look into it and I should call Amazon to see what they could do. Later that day I got a call from a nice lady from the original national call and she took notes of everything I said and she was especially interested that I had video of the postman walking right by the house.

Wednesday I called Amazon and a lady with a very foreign accent finally admitted she knew who had sent us the package and even what they had sent but that their security policy forbade her to tell me. I asked if she could forward me to somebody who could be more helpful and she said she would. The call was put on hold and after ten minutes I disconnected the call thinking she had just ditched me.

About an hour later Tracey got a text message from a co-worker who said Amazon had told her I had called them and said we never received the gift. Shortly after that the Morton Postmaster called to say they had found the package had been “misdelivered” and was now in our mailbox. And within minutes Tracey got a call back from the coworker saying her Amazon page had updated to say we just received the package.

I am amazed it all worked out and that there is obviously a very direct connection between Amazon and the postal system. I am quick to complain, and although I am not thrilled I had to deal with the automated systems —— I have to give them credit.

Tracey met our postman while she was out walking the dog. He apologized for the misplaced package and said he was “one thousand percent at fault”. Tracey assured him all was well, that it ended well, and not to worry any more about it.

On March 8th I called my supplier to get a mask insert for my CPAP mask and they said they would ship it as soon as the dr. office renewed my script. I called them back March 12th and learned they were still waiting for the dr. office. So I go to the OSF portal and leave a message with the dr. office. They say the dr. is out until the following Mon. Wait. On March 20th the dr. office finally says they faxed the script in. Again. They said it had already been renewed back in Jan. Whatever. So on March 20th I call the supplier again and they say it was shipped #USPS that day. My mask insert is now in Birmingham, AL.

The United States Postal Service has suspended all inbound packages from China and Hong Kong “until further notice”, according to a statement released by USPS on Tuesday night. The USPS statement called it a “temporary service disruption”, without providing an explanation. “Effective Feb. 4th, the Postal Service will temporarily suspend only international package acceptance of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong Posts until further notice,” according to the statement.
