In 1955, nine months before Rosa Parks’ famous act of defiance, Claudette (Austin) Colvin, a black high school student in Montgomery, AL, was arrested after refusing to give up her seat on a public bus to a white passenger. #ClaudetteColvin
Colvin’s case was dropped by civil rights campaigners because Colvin was unmarried and pregnant during the proceedings. It is now widely accepted that Colvin was not accredited by civil rights campaigners at the time due to her circumstances. |
