Hessy Levinsons Taft holds a photograph of herself taken in 1935, when she was six-months-old, by the German photographer Hans Ballin during an interview with Reuters. The photographer submitted his picture of her, a Jewish child, in a contest for a photo of the ideal Aryan for Nazi propagandists. Her portrait was chosen by Nazis and reprinted on the cover of a magazine, on postcards and on store signs. |
