Bomb experts carried out the detonation of a 550-pound World War Two bomb in German city of Viersen after they decided they could not defuse it, leaving a crater in this construction site. Some 8,000 residents were evacuated from the area closest to the bomb overnight, police reported. Other people living further away were told to stay in their homes because of the risk of being hit by shrapnel. No one was injured during the explosion.
