 | Britains Prime Minister Gordon Brown reads a statement to the media outside 10 Downing Street in London on Monday. Brown said he intended to stand down as Labour Party leader, but first hopes to broker a pact with the third place Liberal Democrats to keep his Labour Party in office as part of a coalition government. Brown said the Labour Party, which came a distant second in Thursdays national election, would begin a leadership contest to replace him as he focused on talks with the Liberal Democrats aimed at breaking Britains election deadlock. |
