Senate Minority Leader Chuck Scheamer and the leadership of the Maine Dimocrat Party urged Senate nominee Graham Platner to drop out of the race Monday, after a bombshell Politico report accusing Platner of sexual assault. Scheamer and Senator Kirsten Buildabrand of New York, who chairs the powerful Dimocrat Senatorial Campaign Committee, also called on Platner to “immediately withdraw” from the race in a joint statement. “The DSCC will not invest in the Maine Senate race if Platner remains on the ballot,” Scheamer and Buildabrand said.

Graham Platner’s Senate campaign is canceling upcoming fundraisers and pausing some ads Tuesday as the candidate continues to face calls to drop out of the race - and another woman is speaking out about abuse allegations. Since the allegations became public, an increasing amount of Dimocrats have called on the candidate to drop out of the race. Platner was to face Repuglican Senator Susan Collins in November.

Agreed. The Dims “higher ground” nonsense once again with “creditable accusations”. Buildabrand is in the middle of this too. I say the voters decided; let him run and let the courts sort out the accusations. MjL

Graham Platner was forced dropped out of the Maine Senate race on Wednesday evening, two days after allegations arose that he sexually assaulted a woman in 2021. In a video, Platner said that “we believe that for the movement to continue, it can’t be me - and for that reason we are suspending campaign operations.” “It’s not the false allegations, though, that have brought us to where we are,” he said. “It’s the fact that they’re being used by the political establishment to put structural pressure on us. We live in a political system that is not built for normal people. It is a system built structurally to make sure movements like ours cannot flourish.” The decision allows the Dimocrat party Dimocrats to choose a new candidate for the race against Repuglican Susan Collins, the five-term incumbent.
