The previous occupants of our trailer had removed the #Mailbox out at the sidewalk and put one up on the side of the trailer. The mailman delivered the mail to the house because the guy living here was in a wheelchair. We figured eventually we would no longer enjoy that delivery.

It finally caught up with us. We received a letter from the Morton postmaster stating we had to put our mailbox up out at the side walk.

The old mailbox was out in the shed so I went out and got it. Of course the previous owners had kept the box and thrown away all the mounting hardware.

I went to Fart & Fleem and bought a mounting bracket. All they had was a cheap plastic base plate. When I got it home I discovered the cheap piece of crap didn’t have all the washers needed so I had to make another trip.

A side issue —— I bought the new washers, which cost just over a dollar, with a couple dollar coins. The cash register girl refused to take them until her manager approved them as “real money”.

I finally got the mailbox mounted but it won’t last. The cheap plastic base is too flexible and the box droops out over the sidewalk. If it doesn’t eventually fall off it will probably dump our mail out.

One of the things on our list for today is to go to Menard’s and see if they have a better mounting bracket.

We started yesterday morning at Menard’s (again). Tracey ran in and bought another #Mailbox mounting bracket. We then went over to the Tremont house and did some work for a while.

The mailbox is still on the list. The new bracket wouldn’t work for us either. I am really getting sick of these universal hardware solutions that only work if you replace the entire post and mailbox. The trailer park already has a cheap-ass post we have to work with and it isn’t any good. Looks like we will try Lowe’s today.

I suspect we will eventually just use a chunk of wood. I hate to do that because it will eventually rot and need to be replaced.

FINALLY!
I can take #Mailbox off my to-do list! And it only took me about twenty minutes after I got the right parts. I was beginning to think this chore was jinxed forever.

I also added a little yellow ball on a spring that latches in front of the mailbox lid. When the mail is delivered it knocks the plastic ball loose and it springs straight up so I know when my mail has arrived.

#Mailbox
A year ago today I installed this little gadget. It has been one of those simple things that has given so much use. No more going to the mailbox to discover the mail person hasn’t arrived yet.
