The #Taurus was repaired too. It was the alternator which had busted. I thought the price on the rebuild was bit high but #Raisor told me it was worth paying for an original with lifetime warranty rather than buy a cheap one and have to replace it in a year or two.

I suppose I will have to trust him on this one. Ben and I went to retrieve the car around 4 p.m. and the snow had almost melted off the roads by then.

I picked Aaron & Ben up from school yesterday and we went to pick up the #Taurus from #Raisor’s repair shop in Morton. I drove the Taurus home and it seems to be in good order once again. It is still a bit rough but it does have almost 125,000 miles on it and I couldn’t expect them to erase all evidence of that.

The #Blazer saga continues. #Uftring wanted $1,000 to replace both front wheel bearing hub assemblies and another $400 to do the brakes. Considerably more expensive than my usual repair shop charges. Besides that, the right front wheel bearing has already been replaced twice and is still under warranty.

Evidently this idea of putting the ABS brake sensor in the wheel bearing hub is not such a good idea. Aaron and I went back to Uftring and got the Blazer back and it will go back to #Raisor’s today.

I talked with Skip #Raisor at the repair shop and he says he can’t find anything wrong with the front wheel bearings on the #Blazer but that the rear brakes are “Shot!”.

I figured that and didn’t argue with him when he said he wanted to fix those first before trying to evaluate the ABS brake light or any “loose” sensors. I suspect he really doesn’t want to replace that right front wheel bearing again under warranty. I will go along with him but I want it all to work properly eventually.

We picked up our #Blazer from #Raisor. It wouldn’t start at first because somebody had left the dome light on and the battery was dead. Skip jump started it for me and I drove it home.

The brakes seem to work great. No ABS light either. Now we shall see if it will start again today and how long before the ABS light comes on again —— if it does.

I got a bill from #Raisor on the #Blazer’s rear brakes and the oil change. Expensive. Too expensive.

I don’t mind paying for the 41/2 quarts of oil although I have to wonder what happened to the other 1/2 quart —— I balk at paying for 41/2 oil filters. Typo I’m sure but at $10.50 per oil filter the extra 31/2 filters are a bit much.

Lotsa running around yesterday. I started my day at #Raisor’s Motors in Morton getting a new low beam replaced on the passenger side of the #Honda. I am SO glad I didn’t try to replace it myself. According to the manual I was supposed to remove the fender liner next to the front wheel and reach in from there. The guy at the shop just opened the hood and reached in and changed it. So much for the book?

I took the #VW to #Raisor in Morton to have them replace the dead headlight bulb. It was worth the $20 labor!

They had to take apart most of the drivers side to get at the bulb assembly. There were a couple plastic covers and the air cleaner to be taken off and then it took two guys to work the release and pull it apart.

I think part of their problems was our model year is different from the last one they had worked on. I was quite impressed with their mastery of profanity as they cussed it apart and back together.

I don’t think they usually have customers in the work bay, but I have taken so many cars there over the years.
